- How do I clean a black granite headstone to keep its mirror-like shine?
- First remove loose dust and plant residue with a soft brush or compressed-air blower. Mix a pH-neutral stone cleaner (≈7) at 1:20 with lukewarm water and wipe in the direction of the polish with a micro-fiber cloth. For stubborn water marks apply a little citric-acid solution for 2 minutes, rinse immediately, then dry-buff with a clean cotton cloth 2–3 times a year. Never use chlorine bleach, steel wool or strong acids/alkalis.
- Will black granite fade or develop rust spots?
- Premium black granites (e.g., India Black or Shanxi Black) have a density ≥2.9 g/cm³ and an invisible natural protective layer; they will not fade in normal outdoor conditions for 50+ years. In areas with heavy acid rain apply an impregnating fluorocarbon sealer after installation to block iron oxidation and prevent yellow rust stains.
- Is lettering done by sand-blasting or laser? Which lasts longer?
- Both work, but high-end black granite is best finished with "laser micro-engraving + gold/silver ceramic paint". The laser cuts a 0.3 mm groove that is then filled with UV-resistant ceramic paint or 24 K gold-foil adhesive; it remains intact for 20 years. Sand-blasting is deeper and suits light-colored granites; on black stone it gives lower contrast.
- Can the monument crack during shipping and installation?
- The factory adds two 8 mm invisible epoxy ribs on the back and packs the stone in a triple layer of foam board, shock-absorbing film and a wooden crate. During lifting use nylon straps ≥75 mm wide-never single-point steel wire. Set the base on a 1 cm flexible cement mortar bed leveled with a spirit level and leave an expansion joint; this withstands earthquakes up to magnitude 7.
- Are black granite headstones allowed in public cemeteries?
- Most municipal cemeteries in China restrict only height and footprint, not color. Some ecological lawn sections require flat markers, so check the cemetery's rules in advance. In overseas or expatriate sections black granite is internationally recognized and approvals are usually faster.
